Algae identification?

Mostly brown... Doesn't seem to come off with a toothbrush easily.... At certain angles it looks like a thin layer that looks white sometimes against the brown-ness.

I get brownish-green on my sand also that I have recently cleaned so no pic...

I did most pics through orange filter.... Rest with no filter...

Ca: 300
pH: 8.2
Nitrate: 0
Salinity: 1.023 , slowly trying to get up to 1.025
KH/AlK: having trouble with my test kit at moment so unknown.
Temp: 76°
Blues on 10 hours, whites on 8 hours.
Cheato in sump.
Tank up: about 5 months.
2 clowns
Cleaner shrimp
Peppermint shrimp
Small CUC

At moment about 10 snails and 5 hermits

Trochus snails and cerith? Not sure if I got spelling right

I’d try some turbos and turbans as well as Astrias first.

Do get your Po4 checked. A lot of issues come (belive it or not ) from absolutely no phosphate in the tank.
Some Po4 or a lot will grow algae but snails and elbow grease are usually the cure.

I do plan on it... I bought a few other kits thinking that's what I needed... I was not fully informed on that part lol.

I think I have a few astrias also I won at a coral convention lol...

I just cant seem to figure out which algea it is [emoji16]

You don’t always need to. There are literally thousands of them. And some snails will eat most of them.


The concern stated above with Po4 is really the only nutrient concern.

I read 0 nitrates isn't good either

I had chryspytes read bad ,it was from stripping all the nutrients out of the water.

So, what am I doing to strip them... Just using cheato and live rock
