Hi All,

This algae has been appearing everyday for the past several weeks on the sand bed and I noticed it on the glass as well. It only occurs where the light is striking the surface. Note it disappears at night. It is a little stringy but comes right off. Is this Diatoms? The tank is new with Marco rock and I read that these can leach silicates into the water? Nitrates are .25 ppm and phosphate is .03 ppm. I have a BRS 6 Stage RODI unit and use Synbiotic Tropic Marin salt. The tank is 20 gallons and I do 5 gallon water changes once a week. Any ideas on what I should be doing to get rid of it would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like cyano
Acts like cyano
More flow in those spots and siphon it out. Over time it should go away as you add corals and other algaes like coralline start to grow
