Hey guys,

Was just curious as to what type of algae this is? For the most part, it has been occurring for more than a week and when lights are on it bubbles, covers parts of my xenia and GSP and the base of my candy cane.

Thank you,

Puggles

Can't really tell from the photos.

Could take picture when tank lights are off with ambient lights or flash light.

What color is it?

If it bubbles and grows quickly, and is red, it is a cyano bacteria.

Hope those pictures above help. I wasn't sure if this was dino, cyano, or something else.

See if you can get a cheap ($60?) microscope and look at the slime on a slide

Looks like diatoms to me. Cyano is a deep red.

Should run its course as your tank matures and bacterial growth in the rock expands. I would use a turkey baster or something to blow it off the corals. Reduce feeding amounts for a little bit.

You have the start of dino. To start with for benefit of corals, using a turkey baster , gentle blow current to loosen this stuff up and capture loose particles with a net and discard . Clean filters and empty skimmer cup
Then prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly
