This started out in my 25 gallon holding tank as a 2-3" piece when I noticed it. It has since grown to the size in the picture. To be honest, I'm not sure if this is a type of algae or eggs or? Any help would be appreciated. Under blue lights it as a dark green almost purple look. It is hard in texture.

Looks like Cheatomorpha.

I don't believe it is cheato as it doesn't resemble any chaeto I have seen or is in my main tank refugium. This feels like coiled or bent guitar strings. It doesn't straighten out or go limp. It is almost like a expanded steel wool pad.

Dan, Upon further review you are most likely correct. What led me astray is that I never knowingly introduced Chaeto into this tank and the very different feel and color from the Chaeto I have in my main tank. This algae is very firm and blue green to purple in color. Thanks for your help.
