Didn't really know where to put this so hope this is right

I'm wondering if everyone's fuge gets like this

I used Fiji mud not sure why but won't use it again as it imo just causes a mess chaeto and a red algea that came as a five start kit I really don't see any pods I did seed them from the kit I got but don't see any anymore getting some hair algae on the rocks and some on the chaeto and starting to see cyano on the rocks also is this normal?

IMO, this is not a bad thing. A refugium is a "refuge". The way I figure it, the less one does to it, the better. Whatever happens in the fuge, stays in the fuge. LOL

Seriously though, if it's cotton candy algae, cyano, some type of random red micro algae, I might not worry about it at all unless it's gets into the display. With a CUC in the display, that should be unlikely. Here's a picture of my mess of algae....

I think you'll see a huge improvement if you remove as much nuisance algae as possable and add flow. A maxi 1200will work wonders. I'm willing to bet flow is your issue :)

Thanx my chaeto and the red algae look dusty I assume from the Fiji mud I also see like dust over my rocks in the display I don't run filter socks have a media bag tied over the return to try to get some stuff out is that normal
Can kinda see it on the rocks in this pic

@Wiz flow in the fuge or in The tank?
In the tank I have 1 jebao rw14 set bout half way power it has a nice wave but the center overflow box does cut some of it out at the other end I have plenty of smaller powerheads I could add but I like the pulse of the wavemaker

If the mud kicks up too much add a layer of larger particle sand on top. My fuge is 5" of sugar fine oolitic with 1" of regular live sand on top. Solved the kick up problem :-)

In the fuge. Not only will it keep nuisance algae at Bay but it will also make your Macros grow like weeds.
