Algae in zoas, how do you deal with it?

I'm quite amazed at how many of my frags have algae growing inside of them. Some have gotten to the point of covering up the polyps, which caused me to try a number of methods to clean it out. However, it seems like using a toothbrush to try and really clean it usually made the polyps very unhappy. How does everyone deal with algae around zoas? This seems to be my major issue at the moment.

IT is a PITA....I like to use a pair of tweezers.....My queen conchs have helped as well....

I have found a lot of the frag plugs being used, are algae magnets. I dont know why, but all the frags i have recieved on plugs end up covered in this hairy stuff. I have started removing the frags from the plugs as soon as i get them.

yeah a lot of plugs also start to rust after being in the water for a while, the iron must help the algae grow as well.

I used to use discs and plugs and stopped. it was cheaper and more asthetically pleasing to use rubble

First thing I would do is try to find the source of the algae and eliminate it.

i use blue leg hermits to keep mine at a nill they work great IMO.

I use my Kent SeaSquirt to blow the algae away. The zoo's close for a short time but quickly open back up. Works great and doesn't risk harming the zoo's.
