Hi all,

I've been in the hobby for around 2 years now, this is my second tank (Fluval Evo 13.5).

I've never seen this type of algae(?) before, looking for some help to identify.

I've been manually removing it during water changes, but it comes back very quickly and literally covers my rockwork again within a few days. It even seems to even grow on my snail's shells etc.

It looks very similar to bubble algae (but the only bubble algae I'm familiar with is the small green ball variety..), if I was to describe it, I would say it looks like fungai / mushrooms attached to a tree stump.. :-)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Possibly though kinda hard to tell the true color with all the blue, though the shape seems a bit abnormal for bubble algae can't rule it out though.

Hi Udest,

Thanks for replying.

If it helps, when I'm running only white light, the colour is a variation of light and dark browns..

Hmmm yeah that sounds like colors for a macro algae , I have some in my tank that a about the same color. Don't fret too much or you might end up doing what I did and nuke the tank. Just observe and if they start going nuts carefully remove them.
