I searched before posting this but surprised I couldn’t find anything. Does anyone else have an issue with algae growing Only on the back wall? What is the treatment?

Funny you should post this question. Here's a link to a discussion by mcarroll, about Dinos. Look for this quote near the end. "One thing that seems to help things progress is to stop scraping down the algae off your glass....once the dino's start giving up space that is. Mechanical removal is a legit short-term strategy and might help give competitors a leg up too." https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/d...d-of-battling-altogether.293318/#post-3578648
Plenty of food for thought.

Thank for the info but I don’t think I have dinos. Also I don’t know how to internet the quote about stop scraping. Is this suggesting not to scrape or yes to scrape?

Here are some pics of what I have going on and its only on the back wall and little on the bottom rock in the back corner against the wall

The posting appears to suggest to not scrape your tank walls if possible to maximize natural processes within the tank. So for me, it would have to be the back wall. Some hobbyists even go so far as to glue frags of corals to the back wall glass, creating a virtual wall of corals, etc. Hope this helps. Cheers!

I’d like to determine what this is, why it’s there and how to get rid of it

That looks like dinoflagellates to me. The snot-like appearance with bubbles. It may be growing on some hair algae. The dinos in my tank like to do that for some reason. Treatment for dinos depends on the exact species it is. You may need to get a cheap microscope and take a look. I'm in the same boat.:(

@Big G hit you with the correct link.

Check out at least the first post in detail...there are two ways to ID dinos listed...with or without a scope. Specifics are included about which scope you can start with if you want to go that route.

My back wall looks like a produce stand just as I like it. Many creatures hunt there like this clingfish. It took me years to get that growth and I wouldn't scrape it. It's natural and healthy but that's just my opinion.
