My hammer coral has been tucked in a lot for past month, this algae is starting to grow on the skeleton. Should I pick it off?

Can you pull out the hammer and dip it in some Iodine based dip like Seachem? The only time I have noticed algae growing on a coral is when their is some dead tissue. I have also had a torch fully recover from it as well. It had some algae growing on the base after my tank crash a few years ago and eventually it went away and its still in my tank today.
