Hello guy. I have this algae on my bird nest. Only one branch of it has it. I need help identifying it and what can i do about it. I removed it a couple of times with my hands but it comes back. My phosphates are zero on my Hanna checker. It just came out of no where. Thanks in advance.

It is hard to tell from that picture. Can you turn down or off the blues and hold the camera just a bit farther away?

Here are a couple more pics. Sorry about the other one.

I would clip the tip with the algae on it and then get in there with a toothbrush and get rid of the the algae next to it. After that you need to look at your nitrate and phosphate levels and get those under control.

Thank you. My phosphates are zero and my nitrates are about 5 so I don't see why these are growing.

if it wasnt glued I'd say to dip in peroxide but I think thats possible. Are you making your own water?

It was glued but I can remove it. Yea. I make my own water.

Whenever I get a bit of algae on my frags I tend to dip them. If you do this a few times while also removing the algae as much as possible it should clear up. If you have more algae throughout the rest of your tank your numbers might be skewed a bit because the algae is absorbing some of the nutrients to grow. Also if you are making your own water make sure your dissolved solids are zero. That will help with the rest of the tank, but theres a billion articles and threads on how to control algae in the entire tank.

Put peroxide and some tank water in a turkey baster and blast it with it. I do it whenever I get a little cyano on my back glass. my tangs and angelfish take care of the rest

Personally, I would take the coral out and then clip off all of the pieces that have the algae, even go slightly into the good tissue just to make sure. Then give the rock a good scrubbing and reattach the frag. You will end up with a smaller piece but will have gotten rid of the algae.
