Algae on my new Zoa’s

What up! A few days ago I posted I got some new Zoa’s for the first time, and I was waiting for them to open. They are still hit and miss on opening so I turned the white lights on to see if there are any problems and I noticed a good chunk of the polyps are actually covered in algae. My tank is fairly algae free at the moment so I think they came like this from the LFS.

I don’t have hydrogen peroxide, and I’ve heard that can be risky (for your own health) if you don’t know what you’re doing. Any other options?

Would I be able to brush this off softly with a tooth brush maybe?

You can lightly hit them with a soft tooth brush. Hydrogen peroxide is the best bet and lightly brishing them while in it or dipping your toothbrush and brushing them will work. Put them in a diluted mix of tank water and peroxide in a cup or whatever for a minute or two..rinse in saltwater and put back in tank. They will probably stay closed for a couple days but no worries. Wouldn't worry about any toxins..just take the precautions you need.

I may be misremembering but the health issues I'm worried about stem more from misuse of the Hydrogen Peroxide, rather than palytoxin ?

Hydrogen peroxide at 3% is safe to use. It is even used as a gargle.

Where are you from? Depends on your location, but most drugstores, etc sell it at that concentration, yes. 2 minutes max on zoas. They will stay closed for a day or two afterwards.

I’m from the UK, I have a chemist near me that might have some? Never seen it in regular stores obviously

Amazon may have it too if that is an option. Just make sure it is 3% wherever you can find it. If you cant find any, no worries, a soft tooth brush under the tap will remove most of it. I'd leave the plug in the drain, just in case.

Man I wish these things came on a plug, they’re on a whole butt rock haha. LFS does some weird stuff near me. Thank you!
