Over the past 2 weeks I've developed this increasingly worse algae problem. I think it's a mix of algae and diatoms. It's not hair algae just a thin layer of green film that is on my rocks. Not on the sand at all, and only on the tops of my rocks that get direct light. It won't blow off with a powerhead. Any help to get rid of it? Or just wait it out? I'm running black box LEDs with blue at 75% white at 40%. PO4 is .04, nitrate is 10. My tank is 3 months old

I see no problem here !!! Algae will grow even in the most pristine tanks. Its part of it . Your tank is still just a baby and that is normal growth and shows that your rocks are maturing . In time your rocks may change into different colors and then the coralline shows up. Just keep a check on the nutrient levels so it doesn't turn into a problem , but as of right now I see nothing but maturing rocks.

@cjd thanks for the response. I didn't know if it was something to ignore to worry about. I see coraline spots starting to show up on the rocks.

I too have a young tank, a little newer than yours and have been getting some small outbreaks like yours. I figured it was diatoms but I'm not sure, This is my first tank. I got a reef cleaners basic snail kit and they knocked it out. Cleaned the rock to pristine condition. I've noticed a couple of new spots pop up today in the display and a pretty good covering in my fuge on the rock rubble so I'm going to reduce my lighting just a tad and I dropped a few extra ceriths in the fuge. The dwarf ceriths and the nassarius are crazy hard workers and the nasa are fun to watch.
