Hello,

I’ ve been reefing for over a year now, this is my second tank, my starter tank was a Fluval EVO 13.5, I used “cured” rocks in that tank so I never really saw the stages of the rocks. Please can you advise on the algae that is growing on my rocks as to whether it’s normal and one of the stages or if it’s nuisance and should be dealt with. I have a rough idea the purple stuff is Turf Algae.

If its a newer tank its going through its algae boom. Its comes and dies off. If its an established looks like normal hair algae a cleanup crew would take care of.

The tanks has been set up since August, still fairly new

The only issues are, if its going through its cycle your nitrate and ammonia will go up and can mess w that frogspawn. Might be cycled and just having algae grow. Depending on size of your tank you can get fish to help keep it in check or inverts

Thank you, that frogspawn and my torch seem quite happy, they’re normally alot more open but I was messing around with some of the rocks earlier, one of my other frogspawns on the other hand hardly opens at all compared to the other two euphyllia, not sure why?

I always move the worse looking one close to the good and see if it perks up. Then you'll know if its light or flow instead of the coral itself. Torches are named well, they will torch anything near them. Frogspawn and hammer can touch and be fine

I’ll get in there tomorrow and move them around abit, i think the tanks had enough stress for today! Thanks for the advice
