Algae on trochus shell?

Is this an algae that needs removed? I found a thread with photos that look similar, and tried to scrub whatever it is off as that thread author did. Couldn’t get it with a toothbrush, nor could I get it with a wire brush wheel (handheld). It looks soft and fuzzy but it is hard and crusty. If it does need to be removed, any ideas on how to get it off the shell? Thanks very much.

Thanks for the reply. As hard as I found it to the touch, I'm surprised the snails would be able to take it off. But, as 100% of the advice I got suggested I leave it alone ( ), that's what I'll do.
