Algae or bacteria?

Hi, I’m looking for some help rn to figure out if I’m having a algae or Bactria outbreak in my tank. I recently left my tank for a week and left someone else to take care of it. When I got back my entire tank was green. I immediately checked parameters but everything seems to be fine regarding parameters. The green substance is all over the sand, rocks, glass, and filter. At first I thought it was film algae but I talked with my local fish store and they said it was most likely Cyanobacteria. What is it and how can I get rid of it?

Just typically lowering phosphates and such. Snails will eat the film. Water changes or filter media can help too but its no big deal.


Do you use tap water or ro above 0 tds by any chance?

If the diatoms don't go away, you can always check for tds in your ro. Sometimes with a few tds, you can add silicate which can boost diatoms
