Algae or something else?

Hey all

I’ve ID’d this as RED bubble algae

Am I correct or could this be something else

If it is red bubble should I get rid of it? I heard in some advice on net that red bubble can be beneficial

If I do need to get rid what’s the best way of doing it without taking the whole rock out and scrubbing as this particular live rock piece is home to most of my critters in my tank

Yeah, looks like Botryocladia to me:

I’m not an expert, but it looks to me like it may also be “Red Grape Algae” (to my understanding, both red bubble algae and red grape algae are Botryocladia spp.) - red grape is typically considered positive, red bubble is not. My understanding is that if the bubble is growing on a stalk (if it has a stem), then it’s red grape; if there’s no stalk/stem (just a bubble not raised off the surface of whatever it’s growing on), then it’s red bubble.

I could be wrong, but it looks like red grape algae to me - it should become pretty obvious as it grows a little more though.

I’ve recently did a hard scrub and most of it is gone from the piece but I left this on I will now just let it grow and see what it turns into
