Hello Reefers,

Two weeks ago I’ve observed some brownish soft “thing” next to the hairy mushroom coral, I thought maybe it’s getting better, but I think I am totally wrong, I think it’s algae, can anyone confirm? If it’s algae how can I stop it from getting bigger and spread?
Can I also remove the hairy mushroom coral from its rock?
I think the rock it came with has created this undesirable algae since I don’t have it anywhere else in the tank .

Thanks in advance

It might be a sponge or cyanobacteria. Can you blow it off with a turkey baster? If you attempt to move the mushrooms you will have to cut or chip them off the rock. This could be tricky if you are not familiar with the process.

I can blow it off, I am just afraid to spread it in the tank if I do so. Any suggestions?
I see about moving the mushrooms :/

If it is cyano you can suck it out with a turkey baster. How long has your aquarium been set up? Do you know the water parameters? Here's a good video to check out
