Hello all. Wondering if you can help me identify this "plant". Please ignore the hair algae; I'm talking about the green plantlike material that now has a whitish stalk shooting off to the left. FWIW, this is on a small piece of live rock. Its the only liverock in the tank that has any significant algae on it. I know from the photo it may look like my tank is an algae covered mess, but I swear its one small rock :-). For whatever reason, the CUC wont go on this rock. Maybe its the palys--not sure.

Anyway-- just curious as this does look more like a (hopefully desireable) marine plant than it does regular old run of the mill algae.

Thanks as always

Looks to me like Caulerpa racemosa variant peltata (probably). Definitely a Caulerpa species.

It's a bad thing to have. Get it ALL out ASAP, or it will take over.

I agree,Flat disk, definitely racemosa peltata. It's a good refugium caulerpa, but in your tank it will grow all over the place. If you can get the rock out and brush it clean, and remove every single hairy rhizome that would be best!
Here is a picture of the same algae growing happily in my refugium alongside chaeto. The racemosa peltata on the right.

Thank you, Randy. I will get it out of there this weekend. I guess it was too good to be true that I got a really cool ( and desirable) marine plant for my display as a hitchhiker on some live rock!

I truly appreciate the knowledge and friendly atmosphere of this forum.

Thanks-- I'll send it packing this weekend :-).. Thanks for your help.

I had the same stuff. I took the rock out, pulled it all off with tweezers and then burned the area with kalk paste. Hasn't returned.
