Algae Problem Help!!

I have a Red Sea Reefer 350 and I need a way to remove the algae that is on my back glass. I been slacking off due to school and work. At this point the algae is hard to remove, even with my Flipper Magnet cleaner. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks!!

What are you phosphates? You might need some phosphateRX to lower it then the algae might be a bit easier to remove. If it’s not alagenyou can pull out by hand then I would agree a good scraper and a lot of elbow grease will do the trick.

I’m glad you ask about the phosphates! I have Zero phosphate according to my Hanna checker Phosphorus ULR HI 736. I think the reason I have zero Phosphate is because I’m running GFO and the algae on my back wall are absorbing the nutrients faster than my skimmer or my DIY algae reactor can break it down. That is why I want to try and remove the algae.

How old is the blade on your flipper? A new blade goes a long way, especially if it's left in the tank like mine is most of the time.

Ummm , is about over a year old and it does stay in the tank. Do you think a new scraper will work?

Im aware what a flipper is, Google the Kent Marine pro Scraper and you will see what i mean by handheld.
This way you can supply all the pressure you can muster instead of relying on the magnet to pull the scraper down.

First I would replace the blade and get a scraper I also get that crazy green algae that is a pain to remove in my 25 gallon tank and a handheld scraper is all that works. The flipper I have in that tank just goes right over it

Yes your Phosphate is 0 because of the algae is absorbing it and feeding on it

Yes I also agree , my algae is absorbing and feeding on my nutrients. oh and I took your advice. Just order the Kent Marine pro Scraper 12 inch. Hopefully this sloves my problem.

Good luck that algae can be stubborn. I battled hair algae in my 25 gallon for months and finally I got rid of it.

I just fold up about 6x6 inch filter floss, start at the bottom, scrape toward the top of the tank and out, and rinse in a bucket with rodi water after each scrape..
