I have been through several different things... I had a Diatom bloom in the beginning where I would get the brown powder on the sand and rocks. That has sine cleared up. I had high phosphates which caused my rocks to now turn green. I am currently treating hat. I have some really nice looking dark red coralline developing which I understand is good and harmless..

But now I have small brown spots on the glass.. mostly sides and a lot on the back of the glass. These are hard spots and the snails don't really get it off. What is it and how do I get of it? Just old fashion elbow grease?

AND... Now that my phosphate is getting under control, how do I get the green off the rocks? Some is pretty bright. Wil that go away on it's own once phos is under control??

It would be extremely helpful if you posted some pics. :)

As for the brown dots, probably another type of diatom as they come in many different forms. I would take an old credit card, gift card or hotel room key and scrape them off.

It almost looks just to be a Green Coraline algae, no pest.

Really? Well that would be ok I think? I have lots of red coralline (Deep red)and some purple also. This green in some areas is really vibrant and in other areas its dark.. Maybe I will search out green coralline an see if it looks like this. There is no fuzz or hair and it is really imbedded in the rock. I am treating my phos now which was a bit high but my glass doesn't even turn green anymore. Or the sand. It's strictly the rocks! Huh Coraline!

I
just searched out green coralline. BINGO! I' feel so much better! Thanks for suggestion that I had no idea it came in green and I was waiting the hair to take over! LOL
