I have a magnum 350 clear plastic cannister filter. Can I use this as a algae reactor, if I add led lights?

I'm not familiar with the particular reactor/filter but if you can get enough light all the way through the reactor and algae once growing then I can see no reason why it wouldn't work.

A tip from someone who uses algae reactor. Make sure your pump or intake for the reactor is closer to the skimmer. Air is critical for an optimum growth inside the reactor you won't see this info anywhere I can tell you that it has a huge impact based on personal experience.

That's very interesting, I'm using one of the ITC ALR1 reactors myself and the pump that feeds it is very close to the output from my skimmer and I'm getting superb growth of cheato in the reactor, might have to just for interest move the pump to a few other positions and see if I get a variation in growth.
