Dear Reefers.
I have my new Algae Reactor working with Chaetomorpha for 3 months now with great results. My Phosphate levels are going down like creasy and that was the main reason for me to add this Reactor on the first place.
Meanwhile, I have noticed some brown gunk on the Reactor, mixed with the Chaetomorpha. I am not sure if it's Cyano or not and if this is something I should be concerned about.
For this reason I have added some pictures while I did some maintenance on it. I have tried to remove as much of this brown gunk and I could but it was impossible to remove it all.
I do have some cyano on my main tank, but it's not the same colour.
Looking forward for some help.
Best regards.

After almost two weeks later, the cyano (or not) returned to my algae reactor.
This could be because I was unable to remove all the cyano from the Chaetomorpha or because I do have some on my main display that somehow ended on my algae reactor.
I was wondering to left the lights of my algae reactor off for a couple of days in order to kill the cyano on the algae reactor. If they are in fact cyano, they should not last two days without light right? However the Chaetomorpha should be able to handle it, I think.
On the other hand, maybe this is normal and I should never mind this?
