Took a Phosban 55o, and an RGBW LED light from Lowes...

Like most reactors inlet at the bottom, external, I don't have sump

Let us know how it's working out for u. I have 3/4 gal unit and I have debate with traditional sump user about size , his argument was that chaeto bed in reactor not big enough . How big is phosban reactor? 1/8 gal?

Won't bore you with the math, but it's about 7.3 pints. There are 8 pints in a gallon, so almost a gallon.
 
Copper and aluminium both good heat conductors, looks better than plastic I got .
I been busy with work , done quick water change last week and went back to original light , hydroponic didn't work out for me.
That's how I left it last week, red kelp algae for my brown tang, free food.

This reminds me of my old cube shape waterfall algae scrubber with the light in the middle. I quit using it because I couldn't find a good led and the fluorescents I was able to get were inconsistent. It is good to see some that work now.

You might improve efficiency by using foil or reflective paint on the outside of the cylinder. I think white paint was recommended on the scrubber forum to improve some reflectors.
 
I checked ebay and they are using a "corn cob" let light. I saw a warning on a you tube video that the cord cob had an exposed connection of the leds which creates a shock hazard. FWIW

I also see the revised above uses the led strip lights which should not have that problem.

Really like the idea overall though and can see where it would be a good idea.

water proof led strip coted in silicon, no exposed parts apart where is your cut off point can be covered with some sparky tape no probs

got some heat related problems, inner pipe have loads of cracks, looks like extruded acrylic , have to be cast acrylic or glass.
been promised quartz glass sleeve replacement in 2 weeks. apart that all ok, algae in display almost gone, no gfo or carbon needed.
