algae scrubber diy idea

if i stuck a ton of window screen mesh and a light in my hob to make a mesh rack that algae could grow in, would it work like an algae scrubber. i could possibly use a diff material. im trying to get my sea lettuce to anchor to glass and make a floating canopy for more nutrient absorbtion.
