Algae scrubber

I think that you would not have enough flow if you only used the effluent of the skimmer. Plus, if your scrubber is like mine, there would be a backflow on your skimmer. I don't think that you would want to hook it up that way.

Oh, well mine is forced through the narrow slot cut in the pvc. But if you are just letting it land on the algae mat, I see no reason why you could not have it coming from anywhere that you like.

My skimmer runs in an Iwaki 55RLT. I'd think that to be plenty of flow. :)

The flow rate would really mainly the the issue if it was a waterfall scrubber, because of backpressure. You can't really plumb the outlet of a skimmer to a waterfall scrubber, but a horizontal should be fine

When I had a skimmer, I had to adjust the height of the water in the skimmer from time to time. I guess it would be ok to keep an eye on it, and adjust accordingly. I know that the water flow decreases quite a bit between cleanings on my scrubber. I just clean it every 3 weeks. I don't want to have to clean it every week just to keep a skimmer going. Plus, the outlet of the skimmer that I was using would be about 20 inches below the inlet of my scrubber. With my skimmer, at least, I don't think that would work. But I'm not a plumber either!
