Algae Scrubber

Do you still need Algae when running this like Chaeto ? thx
As the water flows over the algae scrubber the algae will start to grow on its own. @BoomCorals just set up one of these, perhaps he can give you some insight :)

If you have an ATS you will generally find that macro algae will not survive as the ATS beats out the macros like chaeto etc. So if you have an ATS, no you don't need any other algaes.
I think what he means is do you have to seed the algae scrubber with some algae for it to grow or will it show up on its own. when growing Chaeto you have to have a little chaeto there first to grow it

Bud, at Turbo Aquatics, makes an awesome line of ATS products. I love my L4.

I have a DIY algae Turf scrubber and it's been the best when it comes to keeping a low nutrient system. I have a 125 gallon tank that is pretty packed with Fish And I feed six cubes a day and my scrubber helps me maintain a pretty low nutrient system nitrates at 10 and phosphates at .3.
At first it took about a month for the algae to see that self but once it is seeded it just takes off and every few days I take clumps of it off and feed it to my fish
