Hey reefers any idea. On how to stop water spraying all over and getting to run down the screen evenly

I did my first harvest and the algae is growing on the top where the water flows down. So it’s spraying water off to the side and I have my pump turn down all the way

You probably have some algae in the slot. Run a tooth brush along the slot and then turn it back on. If it’s still doing it, try running a tooth pick in the slot to knock the algae loose.

To prevent this you need a light blocker at the top of the screen where it enters the tub.. something as simple as some duct tape on top of the pipe folded over covering the first 3-4 rows of the screen or the more advanced approach is to use a larger diameter pipe over top of the flow pipe.

I always remove all of the algae from the top of the screen and the water outlet. Leaving some on the screen to repopulate. Then I run one of those free cards the credit companies so nicely always send through the slot between the screen and the outlet tube. It seems to keep the water flow pretty even. Been doing this for about 6 months. Oh yeah, and I harvest once a week.

yup to all the above I leave the top 1" or so smooth so algae don't grow in to the slot.
plan to use a light blocker PVC pipe too.

if you hate it. dont give up on ATS you can always do an upflow ATS in sump or over flow box too.
I personally think ATS are way underrated...
