During the WT group buy I saw Mikes algae scrubber. Cool so I started one this week DIY.
Questions

Do I clean my screen on week 1?

When cleaning do I clean half the screen or the entire screen?

Yea that site has all the info. Basic is weekly cleaning unless it turns brown or rubbery or if u have high nutriients earlier cleanings are advised. If using cfl bulbs u are going to put them as close as possible without burning the algae. Site says 4" from screen but I find 2"-3" better. Basically it all depends on what your growth looks like. Leds and t5 lit scrubbers are far better and more effecient.

Common misconception is that using a scrubber means no skimmer. While u can it doesn't mean you have too. They are 2 entirely different filtration methods and shouldn't be compared. Scrubber is more like a super algae refuge and would be better compared against fuge or biopellets. Imo its the best and def safest method no chance for it to overclean water like biopellets and works just as good if built right can easily keep nutrients in the ULNS range. Lmk if u have more questions or need help setting up. Although biopellets are easier to setup since scrubber is a diy project lol

Also give it time to start working to the point you will notice any diference in your dysplay tank. I started my tank 3 month ago and i was frustrated calling mike almost every day lol cause my scrubber was not working the way it was suppose to but all i had to do was wait an even with my lights not having enough spread its still maintaining my 150 gallon in ok numbers at the moment. I just recieved one of the l2 algae scrubber and im in the process of installing it. Ill post some pictures soon.
