Ok im not trying to convence any one or change the way you up keep your reef all im showing here is how it works for me.
I started my tank with no skimmer no filtration and no bio pellets only running on a diy underpowered scrubber and it kept the tank going but not good enough. My nitrates stay at 20 to 30ppm and phosphates at .35 and the only thing that would make my phosphates go down was gfo and i had red and green cyano all over so I decided to give the l2 algae scrubber a try and man this thing its a beast. In 3 weeks my nitrates have gone down to 5ppm and phosphates to .20 without using gfo or any other filtration and all my red cyano is gone and only have a few spots with green cyano. The only bad thing about running the scrubber with no other filtration is that you get a lot of food particles in the water but it also good for corals. I was thinking of running a skimmer but im not until I finish testing it. I what to see if the scrubber takes my phosphates down to 0.
