Starting a new build. IM 50 EXT

Octo sump which has room for all of these add ons

I do want to keep fish that will need pods ( wrasse )

I know i don't NEED these, but will they help a lot?

Looking to have a higher bio load in this tank between fish, corals, clean up crew and feedings.

yeah i mean an algae scrubber is gonna be top tier out of those and then a fleece roller. you can do both if you need to and have to proper space fot them. i say go as needed. you can start with either and see how it goes. im actually looking into which ones im gonna buy for my new build also

@jason24365 All true! I think i might start with a Algae scrubber and a UV

My main concern is a UV will kill my pods
Nah. I have a 120g and now run a 57w aqua uv. My return goes through the UV. My pods survived and thrived with a half dozen wrasses in the tank, could see them doing their thing at lights out. Having to reboot the tank since a seam leak, I plan to reseason the pods again.

I think there's rationale for just about every piece of equipment. Of course I'm going to recommend an Algae Scrubber but remember when you combine multiple forms of filtration together, you can downsize each piece. Think of each item taking a percentage of the overall filtration.

So if you have 3 major piece of filtration, each can be 1/3-1/2 the "recommended" size. So a 75g rated skimmer on a 200g tank, that type of thing.

Also my 2c on rollermats/filter socks, similar to that above, divert only part of your flow to a rollermat or sock. I think a lot of people try to push everything through one of these devices, but IMO to an extent you want some particles to circulate through the system and become food for microbes/bacteria. Think multiple pass function, not single-pass.
