A buddy of mine has a custom 50 gallon reef savvy and has a bit of a nutrient issue. He’s already growing cheato in his sump but that’s not enough. He’s trying to get his nitrates which are at about 30ppm down to 10ppm due to an algae issue in the display. And yes, he does biweekly water changes, siphons the sand bed, and doesn’t over feed his 4 fish. He’s looking at either Clear water Cw-50, or a Santa Monica rain 2, drop 1.2 (or 1.4 he doesn’t know how big of a scrubber he needs). Hes leaning torwards the drop 1.2 He’s also open to suggestions of good scrubbers around the $300 mark. Thank you all for your input!

Santa Monica has some nice scrubbers for sure! I would also encourage you to consider the IceCap scrubber. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I can't comment on the manufactured ones but i loved my diy scrubber when i ran it. It definitely helped my tank get from very high nitrate down to low levels that i have been able to maintain since then.

Hahaha he doesn’t trust himself to make one, that’s why he’s going with a manufactured one
