Algae still growing EVERYWHERE

It would likely take longer than you'd like to do that. If you have the ability, turn off the whites only. The blues won't cause it to grow as much. You can shorten your photo periods though, that definitely won't hurt.
All I use is pure blue rarely use whites …just feel like my lps coral hate any white for some reason They get so tiny when I put the whites on

I bet the growth is from the natural light and the parameters out of whack then.

Get those turbo snails, trim the longest of the algae if you can, if possible reduce the natural light that is hitting the tank. I had to get black out curtains for my office. Morning light would hit it otherwise. Might have to look into that.

I ordered a uv maybe it’ll help some but I doubt with the gha but it can’t hurt right
UV is a great tool for a number of issues, absolutely wont hurt. But unlikely to help TOO much with the algae. It'll help with a bloom when the algae is in the water column, but when it's on the rocks it likely won't reduce it too much.

That being said I am firmly on the side of UV's being beneficial. I run one on my 20g 24x7.

Yes ty I’m leaning more on too much light hitting the tank

The best cleanup crew is yourself. On water change day take the rock out, scrub off the gha with a stiff toothbrush or maybe even something stiffer and then shake it out in the water change water and then put it back in your tank.

Hi, your ph is low 7.4, this tells me that you have high co2 in the tank (algaes can use co2) try and use kalkwasser to bring the ph up, kalkwasser reacts with co2 helping your tank condition.

your no3 is too low I’d look at dosing neonitro or potassium nitrate. Both of this comes in no3 skipping the ammonia stage that GHA assimilate easier than nitrates.

Having a low no3 will bring you a lot of problems including beneficial bacteria going dormant and dinoflagellates.

once you got the ph and no3 in balance finish the job with cuc.

This will be the 2nd time I empty my cup in less then a week…I’m wondering if this protein skimmer is just too strong for a 40 gallon ? Can it possibly taking out the good nutrients ? I’m about to give up on tiny tanks as I found my larger tanks give me way less trouble lol

You're skimming a little wet. What it collects should be a bit thicker and darker. Wetter = Lighter color skimmate, Pulling out more nutrients. Dryer = Darker Skimmate and leaves in more nutrients

It’s on the lowest setting I been trying to get it darker it won’t go any lower :(

OP, raising the cup on that skimmer will make it skim dryer. Lowering it makes it skim wetter, you want to raise the skimmer cup to make it skim less wet. Less water will make it's way into the cup if you raise it. That skimmer is fine for a 40G.

Ty. But I turned it off I’m only gonna run it a few times a week my nitrates dropped to 0 and fast which may seem good for everyone else but my lps likes alil dirty water I think

My ph did get low ….it was I think at 7.8? The last time I checked ? So the algae is sucking the oxygen out of the water ? I’m gonna try one of those supplements hopefully they are reef safe …,I never did ph up n down bc I heard horror stories from it but I never heard of the ones you mentioned so I’ll give it a try
