Okay so hey guys, my tank finished cycling about a week and a half ago and I've added fish and a couple small Coral Frags. I have a cleaner shrimp oh, several hermit crabs, and 7 snails three of which are Nassarius snails. About 3 days ago my tank started growing this greenish brown algae all over the glass and sand at the bottom and every 12 hours or so I have to use my Mag float to go over the tank walls just to keep it from getting so dirty that I can't see into it anymore. Any ideas on how to fix this or is this just part of the tank cycling to create bacteria that eats algae?
I just did a 25% water change yesterday but didn't really help at all. Phosphate is at 0, calcium 440, ammonia 0, nitrate 0, nitrate 5 to 7 PPM. PH has kind of been an issue it's fluctuated between 7.9 + 8.1 but this morning it had dropped down to 7.8!

Don’t sweat the ph.

Double check your rodi water.
Stop water changes for a while.
(What salt are you using)
Use some fritz zyme or dr tims weekly.
Get some turbos and turbans.
Dry rock ?
Pics of the algae please ?

that's building up but that's what all the glass looks like if I don't do anything for 12 hours.

Curious how the bacteria in a bottle helps? Not an argument, genuine curiosity.

In a new tank the bio filter is informed fully. There is a lack especially in the Rock. So the bacteria is just coating surfaces.
Adding a densely poupulated amount to the tank can help absorb and free floating but undetectable ammonia fromthe fish rather than let it feed the algae directly.
A fwiw , salt mixes contain some ammonia naturally. So if nutrients are low and minerals are fine , skip the WC.

Yea, new tank uglies. No worries. It’ll pass.
Add some chato or ats and the stuff we talked about.

It's a new tank so you will go through these ugly phases. How did you test PO4?

I would keep up with weekly 10% water changes, increase your CUC if needed and let things ride out for a while.

API reef master test kit. Kind of a pain but if you have the patience and do it correctly, really works well for me.

I used ATM colony and it seriously was amazing how fast it worked and added good bacteria to the tank. My ammonia was a little over 2 PPM and 2 Days Later it was basically zero. I first heard about it when I was watching YouTube videos on how professional Aquarius love to use it when setting up new tanks in aquariums. Just don't let the bottle freeze or become too warm because it might kill the good bacteria off..

Dont use api to test for phosphate its inaccurate.. I would just do what the others suggested it should be gone in the next few weeks
