Hello all, it seems like in the matter of a week all hell broke loose in my tank.
I'm dealing with three discrete types of algae, a microfauna pod invasion and now my GSP coral closed and won't open (two full days now). I do a 5 gallon water change (it's a 30 gallon tank) every Sunday using instant ocean reef crystals.

I'm running chemipure blue and GFO. I also have a small in rear sump chamber chaeto refugium with it's own light. While trying to find the source of the GSP closure I inspected the refugium chamber and found it was brown and slimy near yellowed chaeto. I chucked the 95% of the chaeto and scrubbed the chamber.

Here are the tank parameters:

Ammonia (API)= 0.25/0.50 PPM
Nitrate (API) = 0 PPM
Nitrite (API) =0 PPM

Magnesium (Salifert) = 1500 PPM
Calcium (Salifert) = 495 PPM
Alkalinity (Salifert)= 7.7

Salt (optically) = 1.026 -1.027
pH (Apex probe) =8.21
Temperature (Apex Probe and Red alcohol thermometer AVG) = 78.6°F

Pictures included below.
Please note the hair algae in the shots as well as the bubble algae on the duncan. The GSP appears to have some brown algae that isn't able to be dislodged by a Turkey baster blast.

Just guessing but I believe the GSP are closed because of all the recent activity with the tank, they will reopen if chem is in line and no algae is growing on them.

Not sure what microfauna pod invasion is though?

Do you mean like physical disruption to the GSP? I only Turkey baster blasted them post closure to see if they brownish stuff would come off of it. (To no avail).

Obviously the algae problem and the related copepod inundation has to be a nutrient issue. I'm just not sure how to nail down what the heck is going on. Additionally, I lost a cleaner shrimp about 8 days ago. Found him dead being eaten by clean up crew. Around the same time I noticed the overwhelming copepod infestation.

Copepod picture below to give an idea of the number of them in the display.
