Algae Turf Scrubber DIY - Complete w/Plans

super cool man thanks for taking the time to share this with the community!

Just watched the video, thanks for making it! I will be using this as a guide for when I build mine.

Quick question @Cyclone-G , for the led flood lights would using 4x 10w flood grow lights be sufficient instead of the 30w?

You could actually use 4x 20W lights instead of the 30 watt. These lights are rated higher than what they actually draw in power. I have reduced my schedule to 12 hours on, 12 off. I've also dimmed mine. I'm not sure about the 10w LED's they may be too small. I guess you could try it though.

Thanks! I might give them a try.

Awesome video. Holy crap that was detailed. I also liked all the little things that don't matter(Functionality wise) but keep it from looking like crap when you are done. I will definitely be building one of these soon.

Thanks, glad you liked the video! Download the plans at my website. I'm going to add the sheet nesting so you can see how I fit all the pieces into the sheets I list on page 1 of the plans. Once you download the plans the first time keep checking back to get any updates I've added. I may do a set of plans for a dual light system soon. Comment on youtube or send me a message via the website if you think that would be helpful.

Dimmable LEDS require an LED compatabke dimmer. other wise you get that flickering when you try to dim

Yes that is kind of true...in a way. The LED's themselves run on DC volatage typically multiple 3w light emitting diodes. The driver however converts the AC power to DC and the drivers in my lights don't work when you reduce the current with a household dimmer control. You could order a dimmable driver module to run all of the lights and bypass the drivers inside the housings. Alas, those get pretty expensive. I'm thinking that I can simply reduce the output with a potentiometer on the DC side to reduce the voltage between the driver and the LED's. I will likely have to include some resistors to take the load.

There will be another project video later where I will show some ATS updates: algae growth, seeding of the screen, dimming methods, and lighting intervals. Subscribe to my Youtube channel to get notification of the updates.

I subscribed.. Thanks for putting this together.

Can you tell us how much a unit like this cost?

my question is other than heat why would you want to dim the light output on the scrubber ?
