Hello I was wondering by adding a turf scrubber to my sump am really giving my nuisance algae a place to go besides the dt or am I just growing algae in two places intead of one now. Thanks for the help :)

It holds a place for algae to grow, to strip the nutrients out of the water column, so that you don't get it into your DT.

Growing algae, whether a turf scrubber or macroalgae, can use up nutrients that the problem algae would otherwise consume. If it is adequately sized, it can solve the pest algae problem, and if too small, can a least help.

I have it in the sump with cheato heres a pic to show size. thanks guys i didnt think about it using up all the nutrients and removing it from the column just wanted to make sure I wasnt just growing algae in two places now so this pleases me. Now to see who wins the fight for nutes, the scrubber or the cheato ;)

Also the mesh was replaced so it extends to the sumps water surface

Keep an eye on that thing! Sometimes they can start squirting out sideways, and get water on the floor. I enclosed mine in an acrylic 2 piece box to prevent that.

Im actually working on that I have a bigger sump on the way then im just gonna box it in acrylic with a couple bulkheads thanks for the heads up haha

It's definitely not as difficult as one might think. Hell, I've been using tap water for the last 17 years or so... Go figure.

Just out of curiosity, does your tank actually NEED that ATS, or are you just doing it just for $h!ts & giggles? I'm going with the latter, being that you are using RO/DI water, right?

Ya im using ro/di ive just been feeding alot I have fish for another tank in my 20 for a few weeks so my phosphate has been a bit high. The scrubber is totally portable so its just to help out its also $h!ts and giggles ;)

I guess in the end I did it to keep excess nutrients at bay and give algae somewhere else to grow outside of my dt cuz algae sucks to look at

I use rod I water 0 tds and still get algae and cyano in my dt. I have 1300 gph return with 2 jebao wp40s. I've been thinking of one of these. I have all the parts. No over feeding for me.
