Does anyone know what this is? If so how to get rid of it. I've removed most of the rock and cooked it outside in the sun for a few days. Then even took my propane torch and burned off any remnants. Rinsed it off and put it back in, it keeps spreading.

Come to think about it, I use a canister filter. The carbon I used to use, they quit making it and the lfs switched to a different type. Since then is when the problem started .

Read your Phosphates, get them to .05-.03, then you will not have any trouble with that algae.

Looks like hair algae. What are your p04 and no3 readings? A combination of GFO, Skimming, Giant Balls-O-Chaeto, Tomini Tang and small weekly water changes = no algae for me :D

I don't run a sump, I use a canister filter. My phosphate usually reads 0

The first reply I got with the info on different algae, recommended removing as much as possible by hand then brushing it off and then using a good carbon.

Carbon will not do anything for Hair Algae.
What are you using to measure your Phosphate?

Starve it- less feedings , reduce lightning schedule and manually removing it.

I have a 50 gallon breeder that I have had running for about 12 years. No sump, I use a reef octopus bh 1000 skimmer, a fluval 306 canister. I have a aquaticlife t5 light, and use a wp 25 power head. I have nutrafin kits for my po4 and no3 they both show 0 this morning. I have a reef foundation pro kit for the cal, mag, and alk. This morning my cal. Is 460 I have a clam and other corals so it says it is the range it should be. Alk is 7.0 dkh or 2.5meg . My ph is 8.2 salinity is high 1.028

I only feed once a day, I use frozen cubes of mysis and brine shrimp. They are small cubes and I usually feed half at a time. I have 6 fish

It's honestly hard to see from the photo, but it looks like a little hair algae to me. Are you rinsing your food? SG is high, can you slowly adjust this back to 25/26 range? What are you using for cuc? I'd advise against starving your tank, especially since I see you have sticks in your profile pic. I'd also caution against throwing large amounts of GFO at the problem as this tends to result in white sticks. Is this algae all over your tank, or isolated to a small area? Besides carbon, anything else in the canister?

What is sticks, yes it's all over my tank, rocks, glass, corals. I use ceramic cubes, ferroxiphos for phosphate

I have a diamond goby, some emerald crabs, red and blue leg crabs, various snails
