Cleaned the rocks this weekend blew everything out cleaned the back glass beautiful two days later my rocks are back to the same red powdery let's call it algae cause I really don't know what it is you can blow it off with a turkey baster my question could it be my lights are to low their at 7" from the water their hydras 26 my phos. Is .25 no nitrates to make a big deal about what could it be

.25 phosphate reading is very high, I'd say there lies your problem.
But, it sounds like a cyano dusting, gonna have to keep at it, until you get those phosphates down.

Maybe this link will help. Does anything look familiar?

Most helpful link. Thanks. We're having a problem with Cyano. Maybe you know this too, is it true that a larger tank is a bit easier to keep in balance? We have just a small 45 gallon, but have considered going up to a 65. We have to make a choice soon, as our JBJ tank split right down the front of the glass and are borrowing someone else tank, while we make a decision. Thanks for the help.

Larger tank volume, meaning like 125g and up I would say. Moving up just 20g would be the same.

Agreed.

Every tank has its challenges. Just choose one you like.

Fwiw. I have a 55g w sump (70 gal vol) and a 30 sumpless. The 30 is a piece of cake. The 55 a little more weird at times. IMO. It's what's in the tank and the technique that effects the stability.

Wow! That's interesting. Do you have fewer livestock in the 30 sumpless? Is that why it's easier?
