Okay so we have a gold brown algae all over the rocks and sand. It's a new aquarium and we only have a cleaner crew but they are not doing their job! We have 0 nitrates .05 phosphates all other reading are good. We use ro water. What to do?? I'm ready to scrub rocks!

How old is the tank.
Do you have pictures.
What cuc do you have.
What's stopping you from scrubbing it.

Diatoms, one of the ugly cycle stages. Silica and phosphates feed diatoms.:) Check your RO membrane and your phosphates.

Not too many people who haven't experienced diatoms in a new tank.. Nine times out of ten they'll go away eventually

Our RO unit is new, we've used it about a dozen times. The phosphates are zero. I haven't scrubbed stuff because I didn't know if I should?? I'll get some pictures today. Very frustrating.

They'll go away on their own in time. Just the new tank uglies. Not a problem.

So does this mean I can't put any coral in? I have 3 pieces in now and 2 look bad and 1 is doing really well. My mushroom is cover in some algae so I'm going to wipe it off today. I think it's still there. I just order a bunch of small corals :( We have a cleaning crew they are doing fine but not keeping up with the algae.

An ugly phase is normal. You can scrub. Let's get a positive id and go from there.
