Hello! I just got my shipment from AlgaeBarn and noticed something in the macro. Anyone know what it is? By the way, is rinsing in RODI ok or it should be at 1.025?

Why rinse? Do you feel a need to sanitize Or sterilizer.

I guess that's true if i'm not going to quarantine. I was thinking might as well "try" to do something and wash stuff out if something is in there.

Amphipods are great scavengers. I am surprised you found that in there given that I have ordered several times and never noticed anything during quick fresh water dips

should i forgo rinsing it in sink/rodi water and just put it in?

It's up you you. You could toss the little guy in the tank


I usually just do a quick freshwater dip regardless because I'm an anxious mess lol

so i tried to wash the Ulva but it was so dense I gave up trying to rinse it 100%. so this is my first attempt at a fuge. Does the ulva need be all together like cheato or can some be on top of waterline and some on the bottom of sump?

It doesn't need to be together. The biggest thing I find is to tumble the algae every few days at least so none of it gets smothered by what is up top

Contrary to popular opinion, the microbial community in seaweed biofilm is an active component to its health with crosstalk between interior bacteria to alter gene expression in response to environmental conditions.

In my experiences, I see little benefit to a fresh water dip. Some macro that is more sensitive than Chaetomorphy will not survive the fresh water dip.
