So, I got my first saltwater fish today (citrion goby) and he's doing well. I asked what to feed him, and someone suggested algagen pods. Are they like snails in that they can take over a tank? I also have a protein skimmer and I've heard these pods can mess skimmers up. I have an 8oz pack for my tank, but I'm unsure to add them. Any suggestions?

I would add them at night under lower flow and dark conditions so things don't eat them and they have a chance to settle somewhere.. pods are not bad at all for the tank they are very beneficial as a food source for fish and coral

They won't take over your tank. They are a good part of a healthy CUC. I've never heard about them affecting skimmers? As mentioned, add at night so they won't be immediately eaten and can get to cover before your lights come back on. Feed phyto a couple of times a week to keep them fed.

Some of us pay out the yin yang for lots o' pods. This is what $155 worth of Tisbe looks like [emoji853]

That's a pretty high price to pay for a simple nails food when I'm fairly sure it's not a need.

It's for my 150g reef and for a separate pod farm. It's been my experience that people don't spend enough time on a reefs microfauna and too much time on the macro. Everyone does this differently and has different experiences, but I like having a self perpetrating food supply for my coral and fish.

me too. But its not diet specific for the animal. It may be money better spent to look at the $20 frees hipping Pod pack from another vendor. Mine came with 5 different pods.
Oh yea. I know bugs. I have had mandarin specif tanks for close to 8 years. I do all mine in tank.

All coral consume pods. I supplement my tanks every 6 months. It works very well for me and is worth the cash. As I said, we all take different paths. My fish/coral are fat and happy so I am also. Is it absolutely necessary? Obviously not, but it keeps me from stressing over my dragonets and Mandarins so it's worth it to me [emoji4]
This is my pod tank. Only pods fed with phyto and roti food.

Just a FWIW I get these for the tank several times a year. Seems the most economical so far. A very good variety of pods, Iso amphi cope. $20 free shipping.

The price is actually more expensive. I'm buying 24,000 pods for $155 vs $25 for 1000. Thanks for the link! I specifically order tisbe pods but they offer all the varieties and various combos. I love buying from them. They offer Macro and micro with other stuff. Shipping is free for $40+
