What type of algea is this?

Just seems to stain the rock, no strands or anything coming off it.

Looks like diatoms to me. Common in a new setup and usually dissappear on their own. As long as you are using good rodi water this will improve with time. There is the possibility of cyano but being color blind doesn't help me much. Best of luck :)

It is usually caused by an imbalance of beneficial bacteria and or nutrients. Once again pretty common in newer setups or on new liverock. There are a couple of good products to eliminate cyano if it becomes out of control. I would test all your parameters, check for proper flow and adequate nutrients. Once again best of luck :)
