I have some green algae in my main display tank and my Tangs seem to kinda eat it but in my sump/refugium It looks like hair algae, maybe some cyno (red stringy, wavy like algae).
Need some advice on how to proceed...

yea it looks like for some reason your refugium isnt working. Either not enough light intensity or not a good enough spectrum. so the macros are not out competing the cyano and hair algae like they should be..
I believe the lime green is a type of cyano actually.

I know this is a problem, but you have to admit when you take an overall look at the tank (like in the first picture) it's kinda beautiful

Tank does indeed look great! I wouldnt worry to much, if the tangs are eating it you should be ok. It does not look like dinos, just maybe some hair algae. If it bothers you just syphon it out of the sump

Yeah this refugium hardly flows I was actually thinking of removing the black sponge filter after the refugium to make it flow better. As for the led its a 6500k which should be perfect maybe the distance from the water surface is a problem?
Oh and don't get me wrong the DT looks great I'm just a little worried that the green algae is going to get out of control.

6500k full spectrum? weird. Im in the stone age and run a 5000k cfl and a 3200k cfl. its pretty bright in there. my flow is pretty fast through it by accident.

edit yea try flow first maybe. simple fix.

How long should the light in the refugium be on? I was running it on whenever the DT was off. I've heard that some people run theirs 24hrs straight.

i had better success w the way you are doing it.

As others have said, it looks great now with the algae! Try an algae scrubber if you really want a clean DT
