Hi,

I have been battling Algae for 2 weeks now and i have no idea how to beat. By the look of it it seems to me it's the red algae and knows as red slime algae as well as the green algae that looks like it's taking over. Red slime is attacking the rock and sand bed and green both the glass and a little of sand bed. Now a little bit about the tank and my equipment. So It's a 90 gallon tank, i do water changes every 2 weeks about 15-20 gallon of water or around 5 lbs buckets ( sea salt buckets) and i use RO/DI water that is filtered with a RO/DI system. TDS meter always shows 0 TDS on the production water coming in, i always let it drip a little since i it shows low tds 1-3 ppm max at the start (not produced water). I first invested into a media reactor and i added GFO for obvious reasons, since i have a algae then it must be phosphate issue as well. However it's not slowing down the algae growth. I used Dr. Tims Waste Away, And i also used Ultra Life Red Slime Stain Remover trying to combat the red slime. It did pretty much nothing. I have a pair of Radion's x35 pros that i run from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM so about 9 hours and i run the lights at 45% intensity. At this point i have no idea what to do anymore. Another option i have is a UV sterilizer, But i wonder if i tried everything else why the algae is not slowing. It is silly to clean the tank glass and next day is getting covered again. I have 1 purple tang, 1 Azure Damsel, 1 Engineer goby, 1 six line wrasse and 1 Melanurus Wrasse and 2 Clown fish. I have no idea what else to do and i don;t have a phosphate meter.

How old is your tank?

Do you have any pictures (preferably under "daylight") of the "algae" in question?

What is your nitrate at?

Will post some tomorrow. Nitrate tested just now. looks like 5ppm, maybe even 10ppm but looks more like 5.
