I'm thinking of adding the ice cap algae scrubber to my red sea max e 170
Has anyone installed one where they don't have the in cabinet sump but just use the back chamber and pump down to the scrubber and then back up to the tank again .
Cheers

I would have a pump in the back middle chamber to get water down to the scrubber and then have the return line come back up

The only way I see this happening safely is if the scrubber is higher than display tank water. Pump water up, gravity down

Yes my tank is an aio I have read some guys just use the back chamber as a fuge

The reason why I asked is because pumping water down is always a bad idea unless it’s a closed loop system. And from what I have experienced a turf scrubber isn’t a closed loop system. You would have to pump water down and match the flow to pump water up with a different pump

Yup ^
or use some form of overflow drain which would be problematic with back chamber overflow

So safer bet to either turn the rear chamber into a fuge or use the ice cap hob scrubber they have

I am thinking about putting an Algae Scrubber in my fuge. I have a GHA outbreak in my fuge that is regularly blocking my bubble trap baffles. The only thing I can think of is a algae scrubber and was wondering if the all in one ice cap scrubber has been used by anyone and if there is any feedback. This GHA in my fuge is a catastrophe waiting to happen and I have to do something

I have done the exact thing I recommend and they wiped out the gha in my fuge. It been a year and there still going strong
