Can adding dry rock to a already established tank cause a algea bloom??? I've never had a issue with algea. I added dry rock to my tank about 3 weeks ago and than last week used reef roids for the first time. Two days ago I started to notice brown long stringy hair like stuff growing on my sand. Now my corals looks ticked off.

If it's an uncured rock, it will leach nitrates and phosphates for a bit. Also, my understanding of Reef Roids is that it too adds N & P...so use it sparingly. Actually until you get your algae under control, I'd suggest stopping Reef Roids. Do weekly water changes to reduce N & P's coming out of that rock.
