I have an imbalance in ALK and CA and Im not sure why. From what I have read, dosing 2 part in equal amounts should assist in keeping these parameters in sync with each other. I stopped dosing at all last week because my ALK was at 10.5 and my Ca was at 480, using Hanna testers. I tested throughout the week and then levels dropped as expected. Currently my ALK tests at 9.7 and my CA tests at 360 and I'm not really sure how that could happen. Only other thing I add is Acropower (15ml) once per week.
RedSea Max E260 (69g) Using IO Reef crystals salt which typically keeps ALK a little high which I am fine with. 15% water change weekly.
Last round of testing:
ALk-9,7 (Hanna)
CA- 360 (Hanna)
Mg-1280 (i do add small amounts of mag to water change water each week) (RedSea Mag Pro)
PO4- .11 (Hanna)
NO3 - 20 (Red Sea)
I know its generally not advisable to chase parameters. The tank has been running for a year now and has good SPS and LPS growth. No major problems right now. Just wondering if this is something that is forecasting a problem that's coming. I'm thinking of starting dosing again at about 7.5ml each per day from a Neptune DOS in an attempt to stabilize the parameters. I can definitely raise the CA but it will obviously raise the ALK as well. How how is too high for ALK?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
