My fathers 150g tanks’s alkalinity is at 15dkh as he’s been over dosing and doesn’t know how to test for alk. I trying to fix the problem myself but just need some knowledge of what to do from experts. My tanks have never had this big of a alk swing so not much experience on this topic. His huge montipora died sadly. Any thoughts?

You could do small water changes daily. His coral and the water changes should bring it down. He’s running a 150G. I would literally do five gallons a day. Should bring it back down.
Yes salt mix will add Alk back in the tank, but not at that level.

Yup, just stop dosing, it will come down on its own and also water changes provided its mixes up Alk to is say 8 to 9Dkh.
Get a Hanna checker for alk.....let come down to 8.5.......then you can start to dose again....but slowly.....dose day 1...measure day 2....find the consumption.....
I assume you have some Stoney corals if your dosing, they will use up the excess Alk..
It’s critical to keep both Alk and Salinity right on point, so test regularly.

Also, has he lost anything else?
I’m not sure as I’ve only heard of about the big montipora bleaching. He lives a few hours away so i’m unable to check on the tank frequently.

I will show him this. His trident ran out of reagents A,B, and C, and it hasn’t been testing for over a month. He kept dosing without know what the alk was, until 2 days ago he used a the red sea alk, mag, cal test to find out he was overdosing.
