Alk calculator for switch from one product to another

hi

Im considering switching the 2 part dose i, curretly use which is seachem fusion to BRS 2 part. I need help find an alkalinity calculator to figure out how much of the BRS product i will dose dose to keep my alk at around 8.2. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your reply. Maybe I’m not reading this calculator correctly, but this doesn’t tell me how much I would use of one product instead of the other. It shows me how many ml to use if I want to raise the alk from say 8.1 to 8.5, but it doesn’t give me how many mls to use of BRS 2 parts if i currently use 30ml/day of the Seachem 2 parts for 100gal. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth price wise to switch from Seachem to BRS two parts

It should still help you cause you already know how much seachem it takes you to stay let’s say between 8-8.5. 8 being the low point before you dose and 8.5 being the high point after dosing is done. Now just put in the info for brs to see how much brs it would take for you to get the same results do a little math and you have your difference. You may have to fine tune the dosing once you start.

You could just stop dosing for 24 hours and see what your alk consumption is and plug that into the calculator on BRS site and start dosing the amount they say.

Looks like it takes approx 2.3x as much BRS (or Randy's recipe) to increase alkalinity by the same amount.

To increase 100g volume by .1 dKH:

BRS 7.1ml
Seachem Fusion 3ml

Deciding if it's worth it price-wise is different from figuring out how much to change doses. To determine this, put a random tank size in the calculator (we'll say 100 gallons). Then, put a random starting alkalinity and a random ending alkalinity (I chose 7 and 8 dKh respectively). The calculator says you need 30.5 mL of Seachem to make this increase, while the calculator says you need 71 mL of Randy's two part (which is about the same as the BRS soda ash). So you need more BRS than Seachem to get the same result (about twice the amount actually).

The Seachem Fusion is about $70 for a gallon both parts, while the BRS stuff is $7 per pouch, so $14 per gallon for both parts. Since you (ostensibly) need 2x as much BRS as you would Seachem fusion, you can double the price of the BRS stuff to make it equivalent. But even after adjusting for potency (and assuming the calculator above is right), you're still only paying $28 for a gallon of the BRS stuff while you'd pay $70 for a gallon of Seachem.
