Alk Consumption for Frags

What is an average alk consumption for a couple of Acropora frags once they begin to grow? I know this isn’t a simple question, but I’m not looking for a very precise answer, more in general.

I never really tested my alkalinity consumption, daily, just dosed to keep it around 8. I also had a lot of problems keeping them alive before I got ahold of a par meter and tripled my lighting.

I’m now testing every day and can see my 6 little Acro frags are encrusting their bases. Each day is noticeably more than the previous. I’m finding that I need to dose around 0.2dkh to keep my alk at 7.2dkh. Is 0.2dkh per day in the ballpark for 6 small frags?

How did your alk consumption start and how quickly did it increase?

Depends on the frag size / type / how happy it is / how happy the tank is / how often you tick the tank off by fiddling with things. There is no right answer because every single tank and coral is different.

My small frag tank goes through 28ml/day of b-ionic 2part with a mix of frags and mini colonies.That figure though is mostly useless for anyone else.

Let’s assume these 6 frags are all 1 in, single branch Acroporas. I’m assuming that noticeable growth means that conditions are at least favorable, if not ideal.

We all started somewhere. Jump to the point where you stopped losing frags and started noticing growth, having to dose in order to maintain a target dkh.

If you Just went all boss and dropped in full colonies, your results are probably different

1 sps frag = .1dkh and 5ppm calcium daily. Hahah kidding but tagging along I was wondering this too.

Just a drop in the bucket compared to coralline - probably won't even be able to notice until the frags get a handful of branches and larger than golf balls. You can really tell when they get to baseball size.

Its a lot more complicated then you think there are many variables. There are things that up take alk then just frags

Obviously there is a lot of variation, but this is similar to my experience with only a couple frags. As others have said I doubt the frags are the only thing consuming alkalinity in your tank, but yeah sounds pretty normal to me.

I have 4 acro frags, 1 torch, 1 tube anemone, 4 small colonies of zoas and tracking closely for weeks now…I think my tank needs around 0.4 dKh a day. I know this convo has been old but let me know If you have an update on. I like to gauge where I’m at.
